Once again this year SOM is hosting Mom’s Spring Break, a one day retreat for moms, April 14th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Otsego Baptist Church. We’d like to invite all West Michigan moms to join us!
We have a great day planned for you. Our theme is Real Moms. Real Life. Real God. Becoming a Proverbs 31 Woman in Today’s World.
Keynote Speaker – D.J. Feitl
D.J. Feitl is our keynote speaker. A humorist, realist, mother of two and “Gramme D” of five, D.J currently serves as the Women’s Ministry Director at Grace Spring Church in Richland. She has a passion for women’s ministry which is evident through the various organizations and boards she’s served with over the years. Her ability to identify with the various stages of a woman’s life and her wide range of practical experiences make her a gifted “heart to heart” communicator, and she’s shared the wisdom God’s given her with women as a speaker both locally and nationally.
Break Out Sessions
We are also offering six breakout sessions during the day. You will select which three you want to attend. We have something to offer every mom from any walk of life.
Having the Marriage Gods wants you to have – Pastor Paul and Beth Laborde
Session Description - Paul and Beth will be speaking on glorifying God in the midst of marriage conflict. The root causes of conflict will be explained and principles for resolving conflict for God’s glory will be given.
Bio - Pastor Paul Laborde is the youth pastor here at First Baptist Church, Otsego. He and Beth have been married just over five years.
Parenting in the Teen years – Lydia Hutches
Session Description - Parenting teens has much in common with labor. It’s hard. Not too many people look forward to it. It’s hard. You know it’s coming and there is nothing you can do to prevent it. BUT it’s also a time of transition. And can end in a new life. In that may be the key to finding joy in this part of your mothering journey.
Speaker Bio - Lydia Hutches was saved at the age of 12 and is still finding life to be more abundant as the (undisclosed number of) years have passed…Prasie His Name! She is the mother of 10, mother-in-law of 3, grandmother of a 16 month old boy, a “baby” girl due in July, (and an 8 month old boy dog, 2 fancy rats….and a PARTRIDGE IN A PEAR TREE…) Sorry, my whole family breaks out in song at the drop of a hat! Oh, did I mention, wife of one? The best!
A lesson from a Proverbs 31 Woman – Traci Rhoades
Session Description - While no one Bible character (or any woman e-v-e-r) has exhibited all the qualities found in Proverbs 31; together we will find that Abigail, wife of Nabal and later of King David, used her God-given wisdom and common sense to save her family, further their position in life and honor her God. We learn from this timeless story that we must choose to obey God’s ways, even if those around us do not.
Speaker Bio - Traci Rhoades serves as women’s ministry coordinator at North Point Church in Plainwell, leading two Bible studies as part of her ministry there. Her passion for God’s Word increases with each study. She has discovered that the original language, the cultural implications and a biblical characters’ tie to God’s great redemption story, offers us insight we can find useful in every generation.
